Editorial standards & AI transparency.

We separate three things every time: (1) verified facts and the text of law, (2) analysis and interpretation, and (3) opinion. We label them clearly, and try hard not to blur the categories.

Our first choice is always a primary source: the Constitution, official court opinions, statutes, and government records. Secondary sources (news reports, scholarly commentary) may appear as supporting context, never as substitutes.

When we get something wrong, we correct it in place with a visible correction notice. When a record is unreliable enough that a correction isn't sufficient, we withdraw it. Every content record carries a status and revision history.

AI is used to help draft explanations and structure answers. It is not used to publish material autonomously. Every editorial record retains its provenance — who or what created it, which model was used, which sources were retrieved, who reviewed it, and when it was approved.

The Constitutional AI on /ask is grounded: it can only cite from a curated library of primary sources retrieved server-side. If the library doesn't cover a question, the answer says so rather than invent a citation.

Content moves through editorial states: draft → AI-reviewed → human-review- required → approved → scheduled → published. Corrections and withdrawals are themselves recorded states. The data foundation supports future agentic tooling, but no material is published without a human decision.

It provides civic education, not legal advice. It may summarize incorrectly, miss nuance, or lag current events. It cannot predict how a court will rule. Use it as a starting point, then verify against the linked primary sources.

The Hope Index is an editorial reading, not a scientific measurement. Component indicators and their weights reflect editorial judgment. Snapshots include the reporting period, indicators, weights, notes, and honest limitations.
